A NURSERY SCHOOL FOR OUR INCREASING NUMBER OF ORPHANS

Kenya’s current population is 38 million people. Of that 38 million, 2.7 million are young orphans. This is a very real and very sad statistic. Behind the figure of 2.7 million are the faces of innocent, suffering children who have no one to look up to and no one to care for them. All they have, somehow, is hope. The most encouraging aspect of this situation is that even in the midst of biting poverty among the residents of Sinogo village in Kenya, where most of our activities are concentrated, there are few men and women who forget about their own impoverished conditions to put a smile on the faces of 31 new orphans who just joined our program. We have found a way to come together to make young lives better.

Since these children are between the ages of 5-8 years, we managed to get an abandoned building (that also doubles as a church) to use as a nursery/pre-primary school. This has been made possible through the volunteering spirits of two local ladies who have also accepted positions to teach and take care of these orphans without a penny in return for their work. The condition of their "classroom" is not very conducive to learning and the lack of teaching materials is a daily challenge. The teachers are going to extra mile to improvise teaching materials for these kids, but we need help. One of our primary goals is to provide these kids with an adequate classroom where they can learn comfortably.
